Frequently Asked Questions

Q

When should I submit an application for admission?

A

Please contact the Admissions Office as soon as you think that a move to Jakarta or JIS may be in your future; no need to have secure plans in place to make an initial inquiry.

Given that every admissions decision is based on personal qualifications as well as space availability within grades, divisions and categories, we suggest that you gather your application materials early and then submit complete applications according to the Admission Timeline.

Q

When will applications close for a given school year?

A

We accept applications throughout the school year, but only process these when space becomes available at a particular grade level, campus or program (EAL, for instance). Our largest intake of students is at the beginning of each semester. For this, the application process draws to a close toward the end of a semester, which is usually at the end of May and November.

Q

What ID documents are needed to apply for admission?

A

An applicant must present a valid passport

and a KITAS (stay permit), or confirmation by sponsoring organization that a KITAS is being processed. Indonesian citizens are required to submit a letter of dispensation from DEPDIKNAS. These requirements are requirements of both the Indonesian government and the JIS Admissions policy.

Q

Do I need to have all my application documents submitted to be considered for admission?

A

An application file is INCOMPLETE and will not be evaluated until all supporting documents have been received by JIS Admissions.

Q

How does JIS transition students from schools with a different academic year, such as those in the Southern Hemisphere?

A

Each student's record is considered carefully. Usually, Southern Hemisphere students who finish a grade in their home country in December will augment their learning with an additional semester at that same grade level at JIS. Normally, a student is not immediately promoted to the next grade level as it would mean skipping a full semester of that year's work. While this can be disappointing, we've seen that most gains parents hope their children will make through immediate promotion are erased because of gaps in learning and/or process. Any exceptions to this policy are determined by the Principal on the basis of school records, the applicant’s age and the results of the placement evaluation.

Q

Can we meet with an individual principal, teacher or counselor during our visit to the school?

A

Unfortunately, applicants cannot always meet with faculty or staff outside of the Admissions Office due to the high number of applicants we service and so that we don't compromise our services to current students. If there are questions that we cannot answer, then we will do our best to arrange for a separate meeting as requested to respond to any concerns or questions you might have. We welcome your visit to JIS and will gladly provide you with an individual tour and meeting upon request.

Q

Does the school offer admissions priority to some applicants?

A

Yes. Please refer to the categories of applicants as explained in the full Admissions Guide.

Q

What are my options if my child is wait listed at JIS?

A

Applicants who are not admitted but remain in the Wait Pool for a given semester are asked if they would like to reapply for the following school year. If so, a new application must be submitted, including all related fees. Category III applications will not be processed after April 15, therefore apply
