JIS Turns 60!

JIS is holding a series of events for our 60th anniversary, with each division – High School, Middle School, Pattimura Elementary and Pondok Indah Elementary – holding their own activities in the lead-up to the school-wide celebration in April. Here is a “menu” of the ongoing and upcoming School-wide activities:

Jejak Naga / The Dragon’s Journey

Since June 2011, the JIS Dragon has been traveling around the world, visiting JIS alums to see what they have been up to since leaving JIS. Click on the image in "Where's the Dragon Been?" to follow our Dragon's tour and see some familiar faces from your past.

Several classes are keeping track of the Dragon's exploits as a geography lesson.

JIS Batik Launch

The JIS Batik Emblem is currently being produced as a batik textile in the traditional manner using both cap (batik stamp) and canting (copper implement for drawing in wax). A print fabric is also in the works to make JIS Batik uniforms for our Admissions team.

Designed by Chossy Latu, recently renowned for his Blue Bird batik uniforms, and produced by traditional batik-maker Pak Mugi, both of whom worked with legendary batik fashion designer Iwan Tirta, we also relied on the knowledge of batik expert Judith Achjadi to ensure that our batik represents our Mission, Vision, Values and Dreams through the appropriate use of batik symbolism.

The creation of the JIS Batik thus helps us to strengthen our ties to Indonesia through our effort to help preserve this World Cultural Heritage.

Legacy Mosaic 2012

An alternative to the time capsule concept, our 3,000-strong student body has already begun painting their ceramic tiles with the dedicated co-ordination of their teachers across all divisions.

Once the tiles have been painted, they will be glazed and fired to adorn the walls of entryways on all campuses, presenting a visual legacy of the school-wide "Class of 2012".

60th Gala Evening

The culminating event of our 60th anniversary, the Gala Evening will feature a Cocktail Reception, Dinner & Dance, and fireworks (literally)!

Themed Connecting to Indonesia Through Service, the evening celebrates one of our five Dreams that emerged from last year's Dream Summit (see the Anniversary Lead-up page for more information). We aim to make this Dream possible through the JIS Peduli Art Auction & Sale, which will open online on 01 April and feature the 'resident artists' in our midst.

More details to come, so stay tuned!

Wayang Performance

Inspired by the JIS Batik, world-class dhalang Ki Purbo Asmoro has created a wayang performance that features JIS's core values as its theme, with wayang puppets based on motifs from our batik and handmade by puppet artist Fathur Gamblang

Click here for more information on this unique anniversary performance, which opens on 16 April. A detailed performance schedule will be published soon.
