Anniversary Lead-up: 2011-2012

Designing Our Legacy

Jakarta International School is proud to mark the 60th anniversary of its formal establishment in 1952, when it was a registered non-profit educational institution under the name Jakarta Embassy School, or JES.

In anticipation of this anniversary, a community summit was undertaken in February 2011 to help us rediscover our heritage and guide us towards designing our future legacy. The Dream Summit, which involved 180 members of our diverse community – students, parents, teachers, administrators, stakeholders and Board representatives – resulted in our Mission, Vision, Values and Dreams, also called The Core of JIS or Core Statements. These statements were unveiled in May 2011.

This collaborative achievement is all the more significant in that it is the first time that JIS has had a mission and vision.

One of the main themes that emerged from the Summit was a strong desire to re-establish our ties to Indonesia. This led to the creation of the JIS Batik Emblem, a symbolic representation of our Core Statements, which was launched at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.

JIS is also strengthening our connection to Indonesia by focusing on sustainable community service, which in turn reflects our philosophy to be Best for the World. As we look forward to celebrating our 60th year, we are committed to Habitat for Humanity as our Core Community Service Project, and will relaunch JIS Peduli / JIS Cares as an umbrella program to support our disaster relief and service learning initiatives.
